Actor Iko Uwais sat in as the subject of fellow colleague-turned-interviewer Scott Adkins to discuss the Indonesian’s star’s life and ensuing film and television career as of late via YouTube on Tuesday. The interview ended in part with Uwais confirming a feature film continuance of the hit Netflix series, Wu Assassins, was in pre-production with Roel Reiné (Black Sails, The Admiral) sitting in to direct.

WU ASSASSINS: Iko Uwais Is Ready To Conquer Netflix With The New Martial Arts Crime Drama Series

‘Tis a mere matter of months until Mile 22 rolls out in theaters ahead of a likely VoD/streaming release for The Night Comes For Us and what lies ahead for Triple Threat – all of which are credits shared by the Indonesian actor and martial arts star, among others. As it stands, he’s already wrapped up a couple of films and now he’s off to service with a cast and crew slowly assembling for Netflix martial arts drama, Wu Assassins, from creators Tony Krantz of Flame Ventures (24), John Wirth (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Falling Skies) and Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell on Wheels).
It’s another Uwais headliner with 10 episodes to its order Byron Mann (Altered Carbon) co-starring. The show is set in San Francisco’s Chinatown and is described as a martial arts crime series with supernatural elements. According to the trades including Deadline on Friday, it has Uwais playing the role of Kai Jin, who becomes the latest and last Wu Assassin chosen to round up the powers of an ancient triad and restore balance once again. Mann, who currently appears in Altered Carbon, makes his return to the streaming service on the new show this time around as Uncle Six.
Wirth serves as showrunner and executive produces with Krantz and Nomadic Pictures’ Oakes and Frislev. Production begins on August 8 with Steven Fung directing the first two episodes, and Krantz to possibly helm another.
Uwais is also dipping full-in on action choreography as well, making 2019 all the more worth looking forward to. So by all means, don’t go anywhere. Stick around and endulge this moment with me!
