The Three Musketeers helmer Martin Bourboulon is back with 13 Days, 13 Nights, a new thriller that follows the explosive events in 2021 amid the take over of Kabul by the Taliban. The film hails from Chapter 2 and Pathé and stars Roschdy Zem in the role of Mohamed Bida, commanding officer who led the exfiltration of the French embassy, and whose own novel serves as the basis for the film.
August 15, 2021: Kabul braces for the conclusion of four decades of conflict. The Taliban’s march towards the capital plunges the city into chaos. In the heart of the panic, the French Embassy, the final Western stronghold, prepares for evacuation. Commander Mohamed Bida and his elite police team find themselves trapped alongside 500 civilians. Determined to save every life, they devise a plan to evacuate the stranded masses and reach the airport. Time is against them. Over 13 harrowing days and nights, the struggle to reach the airport unfolds. They suffer failures, attacks and setbacks. Yet, amid the chaos, one thing remains unwavering—hope.
Also starring are Lyna Khourdi, Sidse Babett Knudsen, and Christophe Montenz, from a script by Alexandre Smia, with adaptation and dialogue co-written by Bourboulon. A release date remains pending on the pic from Pathé who is also repping world sales.
Variety‘s Elsa Keslassy broke the teaser with more from the director on his inspiration:
“As a director I am drawn toward projects that are both large in scope, tailored for the big screen, yet remain emotional, and character-driven, and this true story is a perfect balance of both,” Bourboulon previously said about the project.
“When I read the book, I directly pictured a dizzying dive into the fall of Kabul, but also an immersion in the most intimate aspects of this unique modern times hero,” the French director continued.
