578: MAGNUM Signals May Release This Week In Vietnam

YouTube Poster

Apparently a lot’s happened over in Vietnam in the last few months – “A lot” meaning the previous March release for Father and Son director Luong Dinh Dung’s new action thriller, 578: Magnum, is actually just around the corner now with a release slated for May 20 in the region instead of March, it seems.

Whatever happened for the delay is still a mystery for me but the news is the news and the trailer is…well, the trailer – the latest which arose back in April and you can take a look at that above along with some snazzy new poster art at the bottom of the page. It’s great stuff and with the Cannes Market in full gear, my hopes are high that we’ll hear something sooner if not later on some acquisitions.

A container truck driver, Hùng, lives an idyllic life with his little daughter, An. The father and daughter become the closest companions in every journey with their orange container truck. Life goes on like that until An has to leave her father to go to school.

One day, Hùng is informed that An is suffering from severe depression. Relying on his old skills in the past and finding out the truth, Hùng becomes enraged and painful to know that his little girl was kidnapped and abused by a male stranger. Starting his lone and intense journey looking for and chasing after the unknown abuser, Hùng realizes that to hunt down that psychopath he has to counter the massive underground forces behind…

578: Magnum stars Alexandre Nguyen and is directed by Dung from his own script, with cinematography by Morgan Schmidt (Furie), and action sequences by Oh Sea-young (War, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, The Suspect, The Yellow Sea). Also starring are H’Hien Niê, Jessica Minh Anh, Hoang Phuc Nguyen, Ngueyn Lam Tao Tam and Anh Tuan Hac.
