ALL YOU NEED IS KILL Trailer Resets The Clock For An Explosive Adventure

Kenichiro Akimoto’s animated feature debut, All You Need Is Kill, is coming to theaters January 16. GKids is out with the official trailer this week as well, marking the latest cinematic iteration of the classic light novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

Set in the year 20XX, ALL YOU NEED IS KILL follows the story of Rita, a resourceful but isolated young woman volunteering to help rebuild Japan after the mysterious appearance of a massive alien flower known as “Darol.” When Darol unexpectedly erupts in a deadly event, unleashing monstrous creatures that decimate the population, Rita is caught in the destruction—and killed. But then she wakes up again. And again. Caught in an endless time loop, Rita must navigate the trauma and repetition of death until she crosses paths with Keiji, a shy young man trapped in the same cycle. Together, they fight to break free from the loop and find meaning in the chaos around them.

This film has been getting some praise from critics in the past year and since its Japan release during its festival run, ahead of its upcoming release in Japan on January 9.

If we never get the sequel to Doug Liman’s 2014 adaptation, we’ll still have a good film on our hands. For that matter, we’ll also have Akimoto’s latest to help carry us over for future generations.
