A television adaptation is set to be pitched to the markets according to reports from Deadline‘s Tom Grater. The news comes bundled with word of the companies latest representation of filmmaker Kim Yong-hwa, who directed the back-to-back 2017 and 2018 live-action adaptations based on Joo Min-ho’s celebrated 2010 webcomic.
The films’ central premise follows a trio of guardian undertakers who protect souls as they cross over to the afterlife for potential reincarnation. While these souls are remanded to undergo seven trials within forty-nine days, the heroic guardians find themselves forced into epic battles with supernatural creatures and mitigating human affairs all as they investigate the pasts of the souls on trial.
The primary cast for both films include Ha Jung-woo, Ju Ji-hoon and Kim Hyang-gi, Cha Tae-hyun and Kim Dong-wook, with Don Lee and Lee Jung-jae also starring. The two titles became major box office hits for the franchise with Well Go USA retaining their releases in the U.S., while a third and fourth film had also been in the works prior to the pandemic in 2020.
