Anthony Alba Presents: LiTTLE BRAWL
This particular project caught me by surprise about a few weeks ago. I meant to write about it then but I didn’t have the time as I was overloaded. This week, I finally got in touch with the man behind the lens, independent filmmaker and martial arts instructor Anthony Alba, whose father, Stephen, inspired him to be a filmmaker since the age of 12.
Having grown up on a staple diet of wide-ranging cinema icons spanning multiple genres from Hollywood to Hong Kong, ultimately Alba‘s passion would drive him and fellow creative partner, producer Michael Scott to put together a webseries based the concept titled LiTTLE BRAWL. The project was originally meant to promote his Van Nuys-based academy, Couprie Martial Arts, with performances by fellow students Hannah Hartmann opposite Kaycee Barrera and Kenneth Lyng, before the move toward webseries content came to light. Unfortunately however, the project underwent its own share of post-production hurdles, in addition to the passing of Alba‘s father one year ago as of July 20.
Alba spoke to Film Combat Syndicate this week to summarize what it took to help bring this project full circle. “What really motivated me to finish this up when I did was due to the condition of Hannah’s mother.” he said. “She was dying of cancer, and I really wanted her to see it before it was too late. She was her only daughter, and we were all especially proud of her, and unfortunately, she passed away about an hour before I sent the video to them. Everyone is very happy with it and I imagine she would be too.”
As it stands, the project is currently in development for its self-titled webseries while Anthony and his brother, Gregory, continue to work on other endeavors in the process, including their own movie reviews which you may also check out on their channel in the embed below. In the meantine, I highly recommend checking out the following video. It’s definitely an impressive, charming and heartfelt piece of work that not only showcases exemplary talent, but attributes itself to the spirited memory of those who helped these people become the inspired individuals they are today.
