ASHES: Crowdfunding Begins For Malay Kim’s Inspirational New Kung Fu Action Drama

I’ve been chomping at the bit to find out more about what Malay Kim has been up to. You know, that Malay Kim.

The stunt multi-hyphenate hasn’t sat in the director’s chair in more than a decade now while, like the rest of his EMC Monkeys ilk, he’s been proliferating his craft on screen longer than I’ve been writing. To date though, Kim is looking to change that up a little bit with kung fu action drama, Ashes, which he and his team are now crowdfunding over at Seed And Spark.

A modern take on a classic kung fu story about revenge and redemption!

The theme of the film revolves around the choices that we make as people and the karmic thread it leaves behind.

A young man discovers martial arts as a way of discovering himself with the potential of being both positive and negative, Yin and Yang.

There’s a balance to the complexity of how our protagonist deals with these new interactions.

Will he find his path to a life of peace, balance, and serenity?

Or stumble and fall, descending into the darkest depths of pain and sorrow?

The project is also bolstering the talents of Tarell Kota Bullock who has been an emerging screenfighting talent for some time now. You can see some of his stuff here, as well as here, and you can also see him dole out the shapes in a blistering and brief proof pitch over at the Seed And Spark page which also features actor David Sakurai. You know, that David Sakurai.

Anyway, tap here to learn more about the campaign and Kim’s motivations, and you need a more updated glimpse of why Kim deserves your attention as a prospective director, then his professional reel below is worth the watch.
