Takashi Miike is nothing if not consistent when it comes to his will to deliver unabashed, gritty, raw thrillers the likes of which helped shape Asian films for years to come, aside from the occasional oddity, of course. He now follows in the footsteps of the non-canonical classic Bad Lieutenant franchise with his own offering in Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, which now has a U.S. trailer from NEON.
A disgraced Tokyo detective spirals into a world of corruption, addiction, and violence as he becomes entangled in a twister investigation involving a vengeful ex-Yakuza, an enigmatic FBI agent, and a missing daughter of a powerful American family.
The cast is led by Shin Oguri, Lily James and Liv Morgan. The movie will have its spectacular outing this Fall as part of the impending line-up for the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.
