BANDIT: Josh Duhmael-Led Crime Thriller Adds Nestor Carbonell
Filming is currently underway in Georgia for Allan Ungar’s new action crime thriller, Bandit, and with the addition of actor Nestor Carbonell (Lost, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises) announced on Tuesday.
Highland Film Group is handling international sales on the project which joins Carbonell with a lead cast that includes Mel Gibson, Josh Duhamel, and Elisha Cuthbert. Ungar directs from a script by Kraig Wenman, based on author Robert Knuckle’s best-selling novel, as well as journalist Ed Arnold’s interviews with the film’s real-life inspiration, Gilbert Galvan Jr. – a.k.a. Robert Whiteman when he was dubbed the Flying Bandit in 1987.
Duhmael takes on the moniker of the man himself who successfully got away with 63 bank and jewelry heists during his notorious crime spree. After escaping from a US prison and crossing the border into Canada under a new identity. He falls in love and marries Andrea (Cuthbert), continuing his daring life of crime under the guise of working as a traveling security consultant. Only when he turns to lifetime gangster Tommy (Gibson) for an investment, does his simple career become complicated and he becomes embroiled in the biggest job in Canadian history and at the center of a special forces cross-country manhunt lead by the brilliant Detective Snydes (Carbonell).
Bandit is produced by Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman of Yale Productions, Eric Gozlan of Goldrush Entertainment, and Ryan Donnell Smith of Thomasville Pictures.
Duhamel is exec producing alongside Highland’s Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier, in addition to Shaun Sanghani, Ryan Winterstern, Nathan Klingher, Luke Taylor, Matthew Helderman and Tyler Gould of BondIt Media Capital, Richard Lott, Allan Ungar, Kraig Wenman, Richard Switzer, Ian Niles, Lee Broda, Colby Colte, Jason Kringstein, Scott Levinson, Lisa D’Ambrosio, Peter R. Anske, Dr. Faisal Mahmood and Packer Morley.
Carbonell’s credits also include Bates Motel, and Apple’s hit series The Morning Show. He is repped by APA and Thruline.
