US action director Joe Carnahan brings together a dream cast in his upcoming science fiction action film? Boss Level. The film stars Frank Grillo as retired special forces soldier Roy Pulver, who is trapped in a time loop that constantly results in his death.

Official synopsis provided below:

Trapped in a time loop that constantly repeats the day of his murder, former special forces agent Roy Pulver (Frank Grillo) uncovers clues about a secret government project that could unlock the mystery behind his untimely death. In a race against the clock, Pulver must hunt down Colonel Ventor (Mel Gibson), the powerful head of the government program, while outrunning skilled ruthless assassins determined to keep him from the truth in order to break out of the loop, save his ex-wife (Naomi Watts) and live once again for tomorrow.

What transpires seems to be an action packed version of Bill Murray’s classic ‘Groundhog Day’, albeit with far more violence and a dark sense of humor. Flanked by the legendary Mel Gibson (‘Lethal Weapon series’, ‘Braveheart’, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’) in yet another heel-turn and the gorgeous Aussie actress Naomi Watts (‘Funny Games’, ‘The Ring’, ‘The Glass castle’) it is refreshing to see the great roguish charm of Frank Grillo (‘Wolf Warrior 2’, ‘Avengers: End Game’, ‘Jiu Jitsu’) being utilized for leading heroic role; with his prior efforts have often relegated him as a villain or side character.

Carnahan impressively implements an eclectic supporting case that include female action icon Michelle Yeoh (‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, ‘Super Cop’, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’) comedians Dr Ken Jeong (‘The Hangover series’, ‘Ride Along 2’, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’) and Will Sasso (‘MAD TV’) and even UFC star turned actor, Quentin ‘Rampage’ Jackson (The A-Team).

The title itself does seem to draw from video games, with the final bosses presenting the ultimate challenge for players, whilst also providing the opportunity to utilize an expansive skillset in a tougher battle. The trailer boasts a non-stop, kinetic thrill ride which will no doubt be an excellent pop-corn action film.

It may be comparable to Deadpool, yet without the self-aware fourth wall breaking elements of Marvel’s ‘Merc with the Mouth.’ In recent years, Gibson has for all intents and purposes made transitioned nicely from a hero to a villain, with his heel-turn illustrating his ability to chew-the-scenery and make for an effective bad guy.

Boss Level explodes onto Hulu on March 5.
