BUYBUST: Erik Matti Teases ‘A Zombie Film Without Zombies’, And I’m Totally Cool With That Description

It’s only a matter of time before reviews and social media reactions toward Erik Matti’s riveting new crime thriller, BuyBust, take hold of netizens. What’s also been worth noting is its partial social commentary regarding the current execution-style war on drugs in the country which other sites have knowledgably pointed out.

Bearing that in mind, Matti took that conversation a step further on Sunday with respect to the action and violence overall, welcoming the final official trailer above with a constructive, albeit slightly jocular bookend. Indeed, clearly there’s going to be some seriously R-rated content and so he’s decided to inteject with something much more foreboding, painting BuyBust as something a little bit more cautionary.

This may be a true story. This can all happen to us. We all talk in social media about killing but we’ve never really felt what it’s like being in the midst of it? We want to recreate just that for BuyBust. A cinematic visceral experience of how it feels like to be inside a real drug operation that’s gone wrong. And that’s the reason why #BuyBust is rated R-16. Hopefully, you guys will never talk of killing the same way again after watching our film. Watch this new action trailer. BuyBust, a zombie film without zombies.

Matti directs BuyBust from his own script featuring Anne Curtis as Nina Manigan, anti-narc special ops officer seeking vengeance for the initial death of her squad only to find herself trapped along with her new team in Manila’s most dangerous and deadly slum. Former MMA champion Brandon Vera and actor Victor Neri also star for the film’s August 1 release in the Philippines prior to its August 10 release in North America.

As a noteworthy mention, Matti has other film projects in the works and while he’s dabbled into action horror and fantasy before, I’m totally on board with him doing a rousing zombie flick. What say you?
