I have a dream that one day Andy Long Nguyen will collaborate with another favorite creator of mine to make the dream throwback Hong Kong action opus. The idea has been replicated aplenty in Nguyen’s “Yellow Zone” short with Can Aydin, and with the “Tiger Cop” conceptual shorts from Maria Tran and Adrian Castro. I need this. It needs to happen, and I am almost certain I am not alone here. People know people, and frankly this is a thing that needs people who know people
In the meantime, Nguyen, nowadays a core fixture in today’s Jackie Chan network of stunt and film proponents, knows other people too – people like Rodney Wong, Sefa Demirbas, and Marc Oberdorfer who’ve all come together for the first of a “Andy & Sefa’s Hong Kong Adventure” webseries with Bye Bye Rodney. It’s uploaded in 4K and cooks up to three minutes with all sorts of Hong Kong action cinema nostalgia from the dubbing and mannerisms to the choreography and stunts all nodding to the glory days of the craft.
Two Kung Fu film fans, Andy and Sefa, have travelled to Hong Kong to visit the birthplace of Martial Arts Films. They have managed to catch up with HK stuntman Rodney Wong on one of his last nights before moving forever to Australia. Rodney has lost fate in the future of HK action cinema but Andy & Sefa will try to convince him how important it is for the young generation of HK Stuntmen to carry on the legacy of Martial Arts films made in Hong Kong.
