CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE: Rick Famuyiwa To Direct Action Fantasy Novel Adaptation
Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s 2018 novel, Children of Blood and Bone, is reportedly in development under the Fox/Disney banner according to a recent piece at Deadline. Formerly housed at Fox 2000, Children Of Blood And Bone is now circling Kay Oyegun (This Is Us) to adapt of the 2018 publication with Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) tapped to direct.
The film, whose literary IP stands to be the first of a trilogy, caught the interest of Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy whose efforts here would make Children Of Blood And Bone the first feature property since the Fox/Disney merger that isn’t Star Wars or Indiana Jones. The report also indicates that while producers at Temple Hill will also be involved since 2017, Lucasfilm’s involvement assures this adaptation will be a priority for the studios.
Here’s a description of the book:
Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.
But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for an enemy.
