Well Go USA’s exclusive streaming platform, Hi-YAH! is cracking skulls to start the month of October, firstly with Jesse V. Johnson’s action crime romp, The Debt Collector, arriving October 7.
Marking lead actor Scott Adkins’ sixth appearance in a film from the veteran stunt professional-cum-filmmaker whose early career credits also include working for directors like Paul Verohoeven, McG, and Kenneth Branagh, the film sees French (Adkins), a struggling martial arts instructor paired up with a rock-bottom former DTV action star named Sue (Louis Mandylor) to tread the mean streets to make ends meet collecting debts for local gangster Big Tommy (Vladmir Kulich). When their latest outside hire arises suspicion of foul play, they are forced to recalibrate their moral compass, putting them in the crosshairs of notorious gangster Barbosa (Tony Todd).
October 14 will see the premiere of The Legend Of The Condor Heroes: The Dragon Tamer. Directed by Zhu Ling-Feng and Diao Yu, the film is one in a diptych of web movies adapted for the screen based on the work of late author Jin Yong.
Starring Eddy Geng, the film, which released on IQIYI last year, centers on desert youngster, Guo Jing, who follows his masters, The Six Freaks of Jiangnan, to train in Jiangnan. The rest of the plot description reads, “On their way there, he met Huang Rong, the daughter of Huang Yaoshi, and they’re involved in the pugilists’ plot to retrieve the Nine Yin Scriptures. Guo Jing is met with many dangers on his way. Luckily, he was taught by Hong Qigong and the Old Imp, improving his martial arts as he learned from the experts. The Western Venom, Ouyang Feng, approaches the Peach Blossom Island in order to propose a marriage, initiating a bloody war as they fight for the scriptures. Guo Jing, bearing a heavy burden, ascends to the peak of Mount Hua for the final battle…”
Magic, sorcery, and kung fu treachery are abound in the 1982 adventure, The Miracle Fighters, bookending the trio of releases for the month.
Hailing one of the earlier and memorable classics from the Yuen brothers, action legend Yuen Woo-Ping makes his seventh feature directorial offering, toplined by Bryan Leung, Yuen Cheung-Yan and In The Line Of Duty IV star Yuen Yat-Chor. Set in the Qing dynasty where a forbidden marriage ensues an epic hunt for a royal guardsman (Eddy Ko) who kidnaps and accidentally kills the Emperor’s son, the story follows along through his young adopted infant son’s mission many years later to win a perilous sorcerors contest with the help of two butting old sorcerors to confront the guardsman’s old nemesis and claim his vengeance.
The latest September releases on the streamer include the newly-released Cantonese-dubbed and English-subbed versions of Vincent Zhao starrer The Blacksheep Affair, the Hugo Sakamoto-directed action thriller A Janitor, Brandy Yuen’s 1983 Yuen Biao starrer, The Champions, the Russell Mulchahy-directed Dolph Lundgren actioner, Silent Trigger, and Legacy Of Rage with Brandon Lee, Regina Kent, Michael Wong and Mang Hoi.
