While it’ll be a bit of a wait until Marvel brings the X-Men back to the big screen following Disney’s acquisition of all things 20th Century Fox, Simon Kinberg is still carrying the torch for the franchise with its current finale, Dark Phoenix, arriving on June 7. The final trailer is online with Sophie Turner back in the spotlight for a second outing as the troubled coming-of-age telepath.
People will definitely get killed off in this X-Men finale which ought to further solidify things. It’s raised questions and concerns with other comic book fans but I’m neutral there. What’s important is that this film retcons the franchise some after X-Men: The Last Stand in what looks to be a fitting canonical send-off before any talk of a franchise reboot or more Wolverine and so on.
