The 800 and Black Dog helmer Hu Guan is reteaming with his “Candle In The Tomb” TV cohort Fei Zhenxiang for Dongji Rescue, a new period thriller set to release in Chinese cinemas next month. Actors Zhu Yilong, Leo Wu, and Ni Ni headline the epic actioner which opens nationwide in China on August 8, followed by a limited theatrical release in the U.S. from Well Go USA on August 22.
In 1942, a Japanese ship carrying British prisoners of war was torpedoed. Dongji fishermen risked their lives to rescue over 300 British soldiers and protected and rescued three British individuals during a large-scale search by Japanese forces. This event is known as the “Lisbon Maru Sinking Incident.”
