ECHO: ‘Hawkeye’ Spin-Off Series Starring Alaqua Cox In Production
The future of Marvel is definitely female with Disney’s current streaming roster bolstering several female fronted shows to come including She-Hulk: Attorney At Law and Ms. Marvel, and Hawkeye spin-off Echo which is currently in production as of last week.
Indigenous ASL actress Alaqua Cox is reprising her role and can be seen in a first look which debuted five days ago. Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada and having first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1999, Cox debuted the character in Hawkeye as a commander of the criminal outfit, the tracksuit mafia, opposite series leads Hayley Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner.
As Marvel notes, “the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.”
It’s also worth noting that Hawkeye ties into Daredevil, the live-action series headlined by Charlie Cox and Vincent D’onofrio for Netflix, which has seen both actors cameo in a few Marvel follow-ups since then, and also garnered a new series announcement just last week. So for those who aren’t as comic book-learned, don’t be surprised if you end up spotting some more easter eggs in its line-up. Marvel’s tapestry of interwoven stories and multimedia remains ever growing.
Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai) are directing the series. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre, and Jason Gavin (Blackfeet) are exec producing with Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King (Seminole), and Jennifer Booth co-exec producing.
