EL-ALAMEIN: ‘Fury’ Director In Talks To Direct Another WWII Tank Pic

I’m still keen on a sequel to urban crime fantasy thriller, Bright. In the meantime it appears that director David Ayer will be backing another period war tank epic as he did with Fury (2014).

El-Alamein is the name as reported by Deadline‘s Mike Fleming Jr. on Thursday with Ayer inegotiating to shoot early next year from James Coyne’s updated script proceeding David Self’s original draft.

After British forces defeated Italian forces in North Africa, Germany tapped general Erwin Rommel to drive eastward along the North African coast to seize the Suez Canal. British forces were routed and it came down to a stand at El-Alamein. There, British forces kept the Germans bottled up and unable to overrun Egypt. After several long bloody battles, and assistance from Australian and New Zealand forces, the allies won the day. Rommel signaled Hitler that the cause was lost. He was not granted permission to retreat, but began withdrawing troops, leaving the Italians alone to be trounced by allied forces.

El-Alamein hails from Di Bonaventura Pictures’ with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian producing with Thomas Augsberger. Lionsgate senior vice-president James Myers is overseeing production.

Ayer is still on deck with dramatic crime thriller, The Tax Collector starring Shia LeBeouf.
