The last known update on a third installment to Netflix’s Extraction film franchise was last May. At the time, actor Chris Hemsworth, who starred in the first two installments directed by Sam Hargrave, told Collider, in part, that it was “in the works”.
I don’t know if that at all plays into Thursday’s trade reporting which now elucidates plans for an episodic extension with the casting of Omar Sy. The show currently adds to Sy’s successful track record at the streamer which is still home to the actor’s ongoing hit crime show, Lupin.
As for the Extraction series drama, Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead) is showrunning for an eight-episode season, and is exec producing next to AGBO’s Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, as well as Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, Chris Castaldi, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin, and of course, Hargrave.
Here are the citations from Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva:
Set in the high-octane world of Extraction, the yet-untitled action thriller series follows a mercenary (Sy) as he navigates a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, the series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices
“I’m a very lucky man,” Mazzara said. “Omar is a huge talent. Joe, Anthony, and Angela have welcomed me into the AGBO family. The team at Netflix is truly the best I’ve ever worked with. Very lucky indeed.”
“AGBO is grateful to collaborate once again with our partners at Netflix, this time to expand the Extraction universe into a new medium,” Russo-Otstot said. “We were inspired to tell more stories in this global franchise, further exploring heroic yet flawed mercenaries who illuminate universal themes.”
