FISTFUL OF VENGEANCE Is The Next Chapter Of The ‘Wu Assassins’ Saga At Netflix
Iko Uwais is back and starring in Fistful Of Vengeance, per trade news making the rounds on Friday. The film is a standalone feature follow-up of Wu Assassins, as recently confirmed by Uwais himself in an episode of Scott Adkins’ The Art Of Action interview series.
Per sites Variety and THR, rejoining Uwais are series one regulars Lewis Tan, Lawrence Kao, and JuJu Chan Szeto. New casting additions include Pearl Thusi (Quantico, Queen Sono) and Jason Tobin (Warrior), along with actresses Rhatha Phongam (Mechanic: Resurrection, Only God Forgives) and Francesca Corney.
Roel Reiné (Black Sails, The Admiral) is on set in Thailand to direct, in reunion with writers Cameron Litvack, Jessica Chou, and Yalun Tu penning the script as they did for the first season of the show. Living Films is providing production services.
Wu Assassins launched in 2019, starring Uwais as a wayward chef in San Francisco spirited away into a new identity as the reluctant “Wu Assassin”, imbued with superior martial arts skills and thrust into an ancient war against supernatural evil.
Fistful of Vengeance will find the Wu Assassins reuniting in Bangkok to avenge the death of one of their own. They soon discover, however, that their new adversary is an ancient threat with otherworldly powers.
The reports also stipulate that while not yet confirmed on the matter, the streamer remains open to the possibility of a second season of the series and/or more movies.
News of the film comes on the heels of a major week especially for the aforementioned Tan and Tobin; Thursday saw Tobin announced to star opposite actress Gemma Arterton in martial arts comedy, Enter The Dragons, which shoots this year and is set to take the virtual sales floor this month at EFM from WestEnd.
Tan is set to headline Mortal Kombat for Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema, directed by Simon McQuoid and due out in theaters and HBO Max from April 16. The film’s restricted trailer launched last week and to date, has become the most-watched red band trailer in history totaling 116 million views in its first week, as exclusively reported by Deadline on Thursday.
