Former Marvel/Netflix Shows Relocate As Disney+ Antes Up Its Programming

Following the announced removal of several Marvel/Disney shows from Netflix last month, Disney+ is affirming is committment to its line-up as of Tuesday, bringing “Daredevil”, “Jessica Jones”, “Luke Cage”, “Iron Fist”, “The Defenders” and “The Punisher” to its platform beginning March 16. The move also includes all seven seasons of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” which initially enjoyed a seven-year run on ABC following its Fall 2013 premiere.

The news also brings word of a change in operative use where all U.S. subscribers will be then prompted to set parental controls, using enhanced content ratings and PIN protection for all included profiles. “Those that choose to keep their settings the same will continue to enjoy Disney+ as they always have within a TV-14 content rating environment, with the option to make changes at any time under Profile settings.” says the streamer.

The payload additionally tallies up the number of shows currently streaming on Disney+, keeping in good company with the highly-renouned “Falcon And The Winter Soldier” and “Marvel’s Agent Carter”, as well as “WandaVision”, “Loki”, “Hawkeye” and “What If…?”; Others include the pending productions and/or premieres of “Moon Knight”, “She-Hulk”, “Ms. Marvel”, “Secret Invasion”, “Ironheart”, and “Armor Wars” to name a few.

Tuesday’s announcement further sustains discourse among Marvel netizens as the continuation of certain characters and franchises are still the talk of the fandom, especially after the latest reveals of Sony’s third installment of the current Spider-Man trilogy. Those I won’t write or hint at any further here, while I will also opine on the online chatter I’ve seen suggesting that even Jon Bernthal’s stirring portrayal of the “Punisher” himself, Frank Castle, still has a future on the screen somewhere. Nothing’s really been absolute there – at least until an official trade report arises at least – but the news coming out today lends reason enough to hope.

“Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place,” said Michael Paull, President of Disney Streaming. “We have experienced great success with an expanded content offering on Disney+ across our global markets and are excited to continue that here in the U.S. as well by offering our consumers not only great content with the new Marvel additions, but also a set of features that help ensure a viewing experience most suitable for them and their family.”

“These Marvel series will also be available across all other Disney+ markets later this year”, also according to the announcement.
