FREAKY Trailer: Vince Vaughn And Kathryn Newton Swap Bodies With A Wild Killer Twist!

How do you celebrate Friday the 13th?

I love to watch scary movies and no, not just the Jason series, although I did spend a Friday the 13th introducing one of my nephews to Jason.

Anyway, Blumhouse and Universal Pictures are releasing a new film this November with Freaky – formerly titled Body Swap and directed by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, the Paranormal Activity franchise), and fittingly, it’s about another ‘Friday’ you may be familiar with (Landon reportedly did take inspiration from author Mary Rodgers… Hint-Hint?).

Before I say anything else, the trailer is above and here are the deets below as well:

Seventeen-year-old Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton, Blockers, HBO’s Big Little Lies) is just trying to survive the bloodthirsty halls of Blissfield High and the cruelty of the popular crowd. But when she becomes the newest target of The Butcher (Vince Vaughn), her town’s infamous serial killer, her senior year becomes the least of her worries.

When The Butcher’s mystical ancient dagger causes him and Millie to wake up in each other’s bodies, Millie learns that she has just 24 hours to get her body back before the switch becomes permanent and she’s trapped in the form of a middle-aged maniac forever. The only problem is she now looks like a towering psychopath who’s the target of a city-wide manhunt while The Butcher looks like her and has brought his appetite for carnage to Homecoming.

With some help from her friends—ultra-woke Nyla (Celeste O’Connor, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), ultra-fabulous Joshua (Misha Osherovich, The Goldfinch) and her crush Booker (Uriah Shelton, Enter the Warriors Gate)—Millie races against the clock to reverse the curse while The Butcher discovers that having a female teen body is the perfect cover for a little Homecoming killing spree.

This. Is. How. You. Do. A. Remake!

You take an existing idea, you have something new to say or a new twist to put on it, and you get this!

Writers of all remakes/reboots, please take note of this trailer. I know fans of the original and subsequent remake Freaky Friday films, but I have never gotten excited at the thought of a mom and daughter switching bodies. But a serial killer switching bodies with someone? Hell yeah! Sign me up. I am all for this film! And if this Blumhouse film is anything like their take on Fantasy Island, it is gonna be great.

I don’t want to rush past Halloween, but I cannot wait for November 13. Come on, Universal!
