Faisal Ishak’s new martial arts drama, Gayong, is out in cinemas as of today in its home region, and the official trailer has already made the rounds… but I’ll be damned if I didn’t document it here at least. The movie stars Beto Kusyairy along with Nabila Huda, and Syafie Naswip, as well as Indonesian action star Yayan Ruhian, and Thai stunt performer Chevanon Phukaokaew.
Gayong is a film inspired by the life journey of the late Datuk Meor Abdul Rahman (ADMAR), the founder of Pertubuhan Seni Silat Gayong Malaysia. The film portrays ADMAR’s journey in defending the dignity of his people in the arena of competition and later rising to protect his homeland when it was threatened by colonial invaders.
The reviews are mixed from what I’ve seen online, but I’ve been a Beto stan since Mat Kilau and you probably know this already if you’ve read my past panegyrics about the actor. So, enough from me. Do take in the Gayong trailer below as well as the official poster, and if there are any similar Southeast Asian film delights you’re looking forward to this year, don’t hesitate to @ me on the socials!
