Next month will see the first of a two-part endeavor from Toei Video with a cinematic premiere and subseqent live stage show event in the form of Gozen. The former, Gozen: The Sword of Pure Romance, now has an official trailer ahead of a July 5 release and is directed by Hidenori Ishida.
GOZEN is a jidageki (period piece) dramas. The word “gozen” refers to a feudal game held in the presence of a Daimyo, described as a match “one must not lose”.
As previously reported by Jorge Salas at Tokusatsu Network in January, the trailer comes following a cryptic announcement from producers Hideaki Tsukada and Takahito Omori, best known for their extensive works on the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai franchises.
Gozen: The Sword of Pure Romance stars Atsuhiro Inukai and Kohei Takeda, with Hiroshi Yazaki, Seiya Motoki, Taira Imata, Takahisa Maeyama, Yuki Izawa and Hiroya Matsumoto. The stage play that follows, Gozen: Sword Frenzy, will have a different cast and perform in September.
