Director Keishi Otomo (Rurouni Kenshin franchise, Museum, The Legend & Butterfly) is determined to give movie goers a reason to believe in what 2025 brings, and he’s doing it with Hero’s Island, adapting author Junjo Shindo’s 2018 novel for the big screen. Satoshi Tsumabuki stars along with actress Suzu Hirose, and actors Masataka Kubota, and Eita Nagayama.
Otomo’s post-war Okinawa tale surrounds a police officer, a teacher and a yakuza member who join forces to investigate the disappearance of a revered childhood friend years earlier. Tidbits of this can be seen in the first official teaser below alluding to the film’s explosive wartime setting and moments of rapturous joy and anguish. It’s the kind of film with a scope you would expect Otomo to be capable of achieving, and for thirty seconds, he teases that achievement excellently.
Hero’s Island lands ashore in Japanese cinemas from September 19 from Toei and Sony Pictures International. Watch the teaser below and take a gander at a quartet of inaugural posters below!
