Remember within the last two-and-a-half years when Steven Paul and Justin Lin were attached to their own respective Lone Wolf And Cub remakes? No? Well that’s okay. When there’s no movement on a project, it’s easy to lose track or interest. As the saying goes: Out of sight, out of mind.

So too, goes the saying for the good folks over at Japan Society who’ve since taken to their official platforms to bring your attention as much as possible to next month’s series, The Complete Lone Wolf And Cub. The series, hailing from Toho and based on the seminal manga classic works from Futabasha and heralded by U.S. banner Dark Horse Comics, is shaping up for a two-day event at Japan Society between Friday, January 25 and Saturday, the 26th.

The organization is also holding a contest for ticket holders with prizes, including the Lone Wolf and Cub Omnibus Vol. 1, 2 & 3, and a copy of the newly-published Lone Wolf and Cub Gallery Edition, which features illustrations reproduced at original size on heavy-stock art paper. Of course, DarkHorse.com has the details on that while Japan Society is doling out the usual buzz to familiarize the masses ahead of time.

When he is wrongly accused of treason and stripped of his position as the Shogun’s executioner, Itto Ogami (Tomisaburo Wakayama) becomes an itinerant sword for hire with his infant son Daigoro in tow. Pushing around a wooden cart equipped with an arsenal of hidden weapons, the iconic father-son duo embark on the revenge-driven road to Hell. Adapted from the mega popular manga series, the Lone Wolf and Cub films are Japanese genre filmmaking at its bloody best, each entry replete with bold visual style and brilliant action choreography. For this two-day marathon presentation, Japan Society screens recent restorations of all six original films in sequential order.

“The Lone Wolf and Cub series contains some of the best sword-slinging, Buddhist-sutra-spouting samurai fiction ever committed to celluloid, enriched with the beauty of Japan’s natural landscape and seasoned with the vulgarity of its pop entertainment.”— The Current
