Hit Crime Drama Series WARRIOR Shoots In July To Commemorate Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee Foundation president Shannon Lee took to social media on Sunday to announce the commemoration of late martial arts legend Bruce Lee’s passing with a July start date for principal photography on season three of hit series, Warrior.
“So you know how July twentieth is a very special date in the Bruce Lee legacy? It is the day my father passed away. Well this year, we get to celebrate him and his legacy in a really, really special way, but on July eighteenth instead of July twentieth” says Lee, before announcing the start of principal photography on July 18 for the series.
“Season three of Warrior, July eighteenth, the cameras start to roll!” she adds.
The announcement comes following news out of WarnerMedia last Spring of the show’s return last April, after its cancellation in late 2020 after two seasons since firstly airing in April of 2019 on Cinemax. Both seasons were acquired by HBO Max with the third season also set to hit the streamer.
Warrior was based on the early creative writings of Ms. Lee’s father ahead of what would have been his starring role in a TV series that was later refurbished as Kung Fu with a new actor in David Carradine. In 2015, she joined with Jonathan Tropper and Justin Lin among a roster of executive producers to birth a new series that would revamp her father’s concepts to bring Warrior into fruition.
Andrew Koji, who stars in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and will he seen in the upcoming summer thriller, Bullet Train, star in the show as Ah Sahm, a Chinese martial artist from Foshan who journeys to San Francisco in search of his sister. In doing so, he becomes embroiled in the Tong Wars as a member of one of the most powerful gangs in San Francisco’s Chinatown.
Between both seasons, Ah Sahm is forced to tread the line between his loyalty to the Hop Wei and its highest lieutenant, Young Joon (Jason Tobin), and protecting his sister who has long since take on the moniker of Mai Ling (Dianne Doan), who has now become the de facto leader of rival gang, the Long Zii. In season two show reaches an explosive climax as the Tongs are forced to unite against an angry Irish mob when an Asian servant is framed for the death of a polititian and is brutally executed.
The show also stars Olivia Cheng, Perry Yung, Dean Jagger, Kieran Bew, Joanna Vanderham, Tom Weston-Jones, Langley Kirkwood, Joe Taslim, Dustin Nguyen, Jenny Umbhau, Chen Tang and many more.
On June 13, ABS-CBN reporter Yong Chavez broke the news that Mark Dacascos will also be joining the cast. Film Combat Syndicate did try to contact WarnerMedia to verify this update, and they have since messaged us stating that official additional casting announcements will be made in July.
