I don’t know if Ryoo Seung-wan will ever get back to directing the kind of new wave Korean martial arts fanfare that drew my attention with films like Arahan and The City Of Violence. I still need to see Die Bad and would love a re-up of No Blood, No Tears at some point, while it’s become more than clear over the years that films like The Berlin File and Escape From Mogadishu were more his speed.

Yes, I loved Veteran and its sequel, and that’s the kind of Ryoo flick I’m into, but Humint has its positives thusfar. Set to release on February 11, the upcoming espionage thriller tackles the tale of agents from both sides of the DMZ who clash while investigating crimes along the Vladivostok border. It’s an intriguing pitch and undoubtedly comes from a director wholly capable of delivering, so I’m excited.
