One thing I love more than Indonesian action at this point is seeing a fresh face take over. With Sidharta Tata’s latest, Ikatan Darah finally set to take to a commercial release after bowing last year at Fantastic Fest and Jogja-NETPAC, that prospect now take shape in the form of Livi Ciananta following her breakout role in Marsha Hermansyah Abidin and Agus Hermansyah Mawardy’s 2024 action drama, Bonnie.
In Ikatan Darah, Ciananta is joined by Derby Romero in the story of a former martial arts champion forced to fight once more when her gambling-addicted brother’s desperate act to clear his debts puts him in the sights of a loanshark’s vengeful brother. Tata directed the film from a script he penned with Rifki Ardisha, with none other than Iko Uwais among the film’s main stewards as exec producer via his Uwais Pictures label.
