The last two years have been very good to martial arts cinema fans and home entertainment label, WELL GO USA, don’t intend for that to end any time soon. As well as a slew of massive hits like Ip Man, The Prosecutor, etc, Well Go USA have been busy releasing some of China’s finest straight-to-streaming martial arts movies on Blu-ray and digital in North America.
August 8th sees the release of Invincible Swordsman (with a Blu-ray set to follow on the 19th), a new wuxia film starring Zhang Yuqi (The Golden Monk) Tim Huang (Creation of the Gods franchise), Terrence Yin (Anaconda), and with a special appearance than none other than Sammo Hung (Ip Man 2). Here’s the plot synopsis courtesy of Well Go USA:
Fabled swordsman Linghu Chong was ready to retire his sword when a chance encounter with a dangerous cult leader forced him back into action. As the evil Invincible East threatens the peaceful realm of Jianghu with her demon cult, Chong picks up his weapon and defends the land with a ragtag crew of misfit warriors in this mystical wuxia throwback. Starring Tim Huang as Chong, Zhang Yuqi as Invincible East, and featuring a guest appearance from Sammo Hung.
Straight-to-streaming movies in China are a hidden goldmine so I’m looking forward to checking this one out!
