Jac Schaeffer Tapped To Pen Marvel's BLACK WINDOW Solo Movie | Film Combat Syndicate
Eight years since finally hitting the big screen in the early days of Kevin Feige’s MCU conception post Iron Man and its sequel, actress Scarlett Johnansson is now poised for a solo iteration of Marvel heroine, Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow according to the trades this week. Up-and-coming screenwriter Jac Schaeffer is reportedly penning the script based on the superheroine whose “Tales Of Suspense” heyday in 1954 would be the first of decades of apperances in future comics from the mind of Stan Lee and creators Don Rico and Don Heck. As Variety’s latest report checks in over a year since citing possibilities and ongoing discussions, nothing is greenlit as of yet with the film’s current development although the attachment of a writer signals a pivotal move for the character’s life on the big screen following her 2010 debut in Iron Man 2 before becoming a staple in the Captain America trilogy. The news comes reportedly after the aforementioned Marvel President met with a number of candidates before choosing Schaeffer and meeting with Johansson to discuss the possibilities of a Black Widow movie; Similar talk grew since 2012 among Marvel fans in the hopes of seeing a solo outing for Wind River star Jeremy Renner who recurs in the MCU as fellow Avenger, Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye. Upon greenlight, Black Widow will add further to the cadre of burgeoning female-led superhero properties on the heels of Warner Bros.’s DCEU push, Wonder Woman which earned more than $821 million worldwide, making it the 9th-highest grosser of 2017 among other bookmarks; Other female-centric Marvel films down the pipe include Brie Larson’s headlining debut as Captain Marvel with Sony Pictures still making slow headway with its Black Cat V. Silver Sable project. Both Johansson and Renner reprise their roles in the current third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this May’s Avengers: Infinity War. Schaeffer, who is represented by Verve and Writ Large, first made her way with a Black List script alien invasion baby shower comedy titled The Shower which has Anne Hathaway attached to star. The two have also partnered on a second project called Nasty Women.
