KAMEN RIDER W: FUUTO PI First Trailer and Cast!

Kamen Rider W is not my first season of Kamen Rider that I experienced in full as it released, but it was the one that hooked me. With it’s colorful cast, detective noire inspired themes, excellent soundtrack, and a story that hits many emotional and storytelling highs and lows, I couldn’t be more excited to talk about Fuuto PI, the anime adaption of the manga of the same name that continues the story.

Fuuto PI, as mentioned above, adapts the manga which serves as a sequel to the series. Taking place after the film Kamen Rider W Returns: Kamen Rider Accel, the show follows Shotaro Hidari, a half-boiled private eye with a big heart, and Philip, a super intelligent and quirky young man with a connection to the Gaia Library, an archive of the Earth’s knowledge. A new case appears involving a woman named Tokime, who has lost her memory and has been targeted by strange monsters known as Dopants. After her life is saved by the detectives, she joins their agency as a new assistant. By following the clues and solving new cases, Shotaro and Philip will learn more about her past, and discover her connection to the mysterious figure Yukiji Bando.

While the iconic actors behind Shotaro and Philip, Renn Kiriyama and Masaki Suda, will not be reprising their roles, the seiyuu that have been selected are quite excellent and some no stranger to Tokusatsu. Yoshimasa Hosoya (My Hero Academia, Megalobox) reprises his role as Shotaro, continuing from the Kamen Rider: Memory of Heroez game, as well as Kouki Uchiyama (Kamen Rider Saber, Devilman Crybaby, Yuri on Ice) returning as Philip. Makoto Furukawa (One Punch Man, Fruits Basket) returns to the franchise as Ryu Terui, the detective’s police ally, and the wielder of the Accel Driver, allowing him to change in to Kamen Rider Accel. Additionally returning from Memory of Heroez is Mikako Komatsu (Jujutsu Kaisen, Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro) as Akiko Narumi, chief of the Detective Agency and spouse of Ryu.

New to the world of W is Akira Sekina as Tokime (Street Fighter V, Fate/Grand Carnival) and Daiuke Ono (Kamen Rider Den-O, Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure) as Yukiji Bando.

While Kamen Rider W is not available in it’s entirety outside of Japan, the first two episodes are available on Toei’s Youtube Channel, TOEI TOKUSATSU WORLD OFFICIAL, at this link and this link. Shockingly, Funimation announced in April of 2021 that they would be distributing the show outside of Japan, so this writer’s fingers are crossed for a full release of W to compliment it. (Hey Shout! Factory, you wanna see how fast I can hit “Pre-Order?”). Fuuto PI will be the first full length anime created within the Kamen Rider universe.

On a personal note, as mentioned before, Kamen Rider W was the show that hooked me properly into Kamen Rider and Tokusatsu in general, and remains my favorite to this day. I eagerly await the debut of the anime, and you can be sure I’ll continue to share more about the show as more comes. For now, check out the trailer below for Fuuto PI!
