Currently kicking it up at the box offices is Kazakh martial arts action drama, Kesu. The film opened in Kazakhstan theaters last week as the second directorial effort from filmmaker Daulet Zhamabayev who made headwind last year wity boxing drama, Arlan: The Final Round.
Kesu is being billed as a trailblazer as the first Kazakh-Korean production to release commercially in both countries. For this, we have a cast led by actor and martial artist Asylkhan Tolepov (The Legend Of Tomiris, Golden Eagle: Special Forces) and actress Merey Makazhan, along with Joo Woo Geon, Jang Hae-jun, Jang Duk pal, and Jin Beom-il.
After their mentor disappears, a Kazakhstani taekwondo master and a South Korean champion set off to Seoul to search for him. But the closer they get to solving the mystery, the deeper they delve into a dangerous secret hidden in their teacher’s past.
I have a habit of speaking praise into films like Kesu before I’ve seen them. It’s only because I’m totally in the market for these films and I’ve calibrated my platform here to help spotlight titles like these, my unfamiliarity with other languages be damned. Kesu looks right up my alley and I’d be hard-pressed to believe I’m alone here. Let’s hope the good folks over at Big Bad, Haymaker and Fighting Spirit are taking notice.
