Kiah Roache-Turner’s WYRMWOOD: APOCALYPSE Hits The Ground Running Ahead Of The Cannes Market With A New Still

The Wyrmwood franchise is back with another steaming pile of zombie violence and brooding spectacle with a new still out now from the latest feature installment, Wyrmwood: Apocalypse, which you can view above. The film is helmed by returning director Kiah Roache-Turner from a script he co-wrote with Tristan Roache-Turner, and with Arclight Films set to handle worldwide distribution rights for buyers at Cannes.

In a zombie-infested Australian wasteland, soldier Rhys has dedicated his life to tracking and capturing survivors for the Surgeon General in hopes of finding a cure. But when he learns all is not as it seems, he must team up with Maxi, and siblings Brooke and Barry to race against the clock and save the one person who may be the key to ending the apocalypse.

Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is the sequel to IFC Midnight’s Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014), which lit up crowds before audiences at Toronto’s TIFF Midnight Madness and Fantastic Fest, in addition the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival where it scored Best International Science Fiction Film, and a nomination for the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.

Actor Jake Ryan (Savage, Warner Bros.’ The Great Gatsby) joins returning Wyrmwood cast members Luke McKenzie (BBC Films’ Perfect Sense), Bianca Bradey (RLJ Entertainment’s The Osiris Child) and Jay Gallagher (Momentum Pictures’ Nekrotronic) for the new chapter. Also starring are Shantae Barnes-Cowan (Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s series “Operation Buffalo”), Tasia Zalar (USA Networks’ “Mystery Road”), and Nicholas Boshier (ABC’s “Soulmates”).

“Everyone loves a great post-apocalyptic thriller! Worldwide distributors at Cannes virtual Market will not only be thrilled with the super high quality of production and visual effects but also with the story and the characters. The filmmaking team did an extraordinary job, setting new heights with this sequel to captivate worldwide fans of the first instalment as well as audiences new to the franchise,” said Arclight Films Chairman Gary Hamilton.

Wyrmwood: Apocalypse hails from Bronte Pictures and Guerilla Films with Blake Northfield and Tristan Roache-Turner producing. Arclight Films’ Gary Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton, and Michelle Krumm are exec producers alongside Jeff Harrison, Ari Harrison, Clement Dunn, Bryce Menzies, and Tim Nagle.

The film also marks a reunion for Arclight and Bronte with the former also repping sales for Bronte Pictures’ Streamline, starring Jason Isaacs (Universal Pictures’ Peter Pan, Hotel Mumbai) and Levi Miller (Warner Bros.’ Pan, Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time).
