KING: Indie Feature Crime Thriller From Up-And-Comer Peter Jang In The Works

I can report that actor and filmmaker Peter Jang is currently in development with King, a feature gangster thriller in which he plans to star and direct. The project is based on an origins-rooted proof-of-concept that will be pitched for financing this year.

A dark, violent, consequential riff on an old Winston Churchill quote, King follows the story of Pedro (Jang) who avenges his father’s murder by killing rival leaders of two crime syndicates. Soon after, he finds himself hunted by both and must survive by killing his way to the top.

It’s early days as casting is still in the works and Jang is seeking investors and collaborators, while I am also told and can confirm the project is circling 21 Days actors Jeff Hohimer and Eduardo Roman, and will also have actor, prolific stunt professional and martial arts legend Simon Rhee of Best Of The Best fame.

Jang began his career in acting and in relative stunt performance back in 2010. He appeared as the sword-wielding assassin in Fernando Barreda Luna’s 2014 short, Kiss Of Vengenace, and shares a number of TV credits that include The Last Ship, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Magnum P.I..

The actor and prolific stunt performer also shares notable shortfilm credits including Boss Uzi which is being pitched as a TV series, and with Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist actor Christian Howard on the multi-award winning Nothing Is Sacred, which is also being developed as a feature. In addition, he is best known for prominent roles as popular game characters like Ryu and Scorpion in several videos from Bat In The Sun’s Superpower Beatdown series.

In recent years to pepper up his directing and writing aspirations, Jang shopped around his own screenplay titled Fear, an introspective social drama that casts a daunting spotlight on Islamophobia, PTSD and bullying. Fear is one of the higher marks of his career as it has earned its festival stripes at Hollywood, Los Angeles and in New York City in 2017, and also earned the Grand Prize at the International Screenwriters’ Association’s Emerging Screenwriters Screenplay Competition that year among his accolades.

Jang is also circulating Genre Blast and Action On Film Festival favorite, The Syndicate, a pilot screenplay which sits as a finalist for the 14th Omaha Film Festival which will have its twelve pages performed on stage in March. Jang has since gained notoriety as one of the International Screenwriters Association’s Top 25 emerging writers to look out for in 2019.
