Australia/Ireland co-prod, Kung Fu Deadly is the name of the latest martial arts comedy coming this year from BAFTA-winning director Fergal Costello, and the first look still was revealed this week in a post you can view below. The image features actor and YouTube personality Steven He in the lead role from a script by Paddy McDonald (Predesination) and Nicholas Cooper (Zombie Plane).
Kung Fu Deadly follows two hapless pest controllers who are thrust into mortal danger when they accidentally tranquillise a Taoist hunter of Chinese undead aka “Jiangshi” who are spreading through the city. Having interrupted her pursuit of a centuries old enemy and with the clock ticking, they must reluctantly band together to rid the city of this supernatural menace the only way they know how: extermination.
Rounding out the cast are Michael Tient, Gemma Chua-Tran, Jason Tobin and Max Huang, with action sequences by Lee Huang (The Shadow’s Edge, Den Of Thieves 2). McDonald is also producing through his Spellmaker Productions alongside Nicholas Cooper for Parc Entertainment Capital who are also providing finance.
The production is supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán and Screen Queensland.
Post-production is setup at Chop Shop Post in Brisbane with Radioactive Pictures distributing the film in Australia and New Zealand. Exec producers are Zane O’Donahoo and Chris Dirckze. Essential Film Group is handling worldwide sales.
