Years and years after numerous shortfallen efforts to revive classic zen action drama IP, Kung Fu, it now looks as if The CW will get a handle on things for a change. Trade news now reports a change over from Fox to its new home and with a new team on board to oversee its televised development.

The hour-long female-centric action drama will center on a young adult Chinese-American college dropout whose quarterlife crisis sends her backpacking on a journey of self-discovery before arriving to an isolated monastery in China.

She arrives home only to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, compelling her to apply her Shaolin training and values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice. Soon, she realizes her actions have made her a target by the person she’s looking for – the killer she suspects murdered her Shaolin mentor.

Quinn’s House Production Company’s Christina M. Kim and Martin Gero (Blindspot) will exec produce in association with the continued involvement of Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. TV.

Originally birthed by martial arts screen legend Bruce Lee, the show took on new life with David Carradine starring in the original TV drama and feature film. Recent years saw Bill Paxton attached to its development prior to passing away in February of 2017, as well as Baz Luhrman.

Kung Fu will be the latest martial arts-toned series for the CW next to its line-up of DC-adapted shows, as well as its recent CW Seed addition, Warigami.

Lee’s own brainchild became posthumous priority over at Shannon Lee’s Bruce Lee Entertainment and Cinemax, using the late star’s own writings and forming what would become the hit TV martial arts western drama, Warrior, which is now on deck for a second season. (DEADLINE)
