I’ll leave it to those who can afford the time and energy to spare to ruminate over any Kill Bill-related threequel prospects there may be after this. In the meantime, it’s another year in the day in the life of Quentin Tarantino who is in business with Lionsgate as of Thursday to re-release three of his iconic films.
The first two reported will be both volumes of Kill Bill, starring Uma Thurman in a revenge-fueled epic packed with Asian and Western aesthetics, and topped with unrelenting, cutthroat martial arts action. Thurman plays the Bride, a former assassin whose secret attempt at a new life leaves her and her wedding party for dead by her husband, Bill, played by the late David Carradine. After four years in a coma, The Bride awakens to begin her hellish campaign of bloodletting vengeance, with a hit-list of targets, and her trusty Hattori Hanzo-crafted sword to guide her.
Both titles will also get the 4K remaster treatment in time for their 20th anniversary.
The third in question will be Tarantino’s 1997 “Rum Punch” adaptation, Jackie Brown, billed as Tarantino’s 70’s blaxploitation homage. It stars Pam Grier as a flight attendant who, with the help of her bail bondsman, and in an effort to save her own life, must mitigate with a tenacious ATF agent following her arrest for smuggling cash for a ruthless gun runner.
“It was a real coup for us to get the three Quentin Tarantino movies. We have eight, which really gives our library a unique situation in Hollywood. And we’re going to take advantage of that,” Jim Packer, president of worldwide TV and digital distribution at Lionsgate, told analysts in his own take on the three-picture distribution deal.
The news comes just as Tarantino prepares to direct his tenth and final film, The Movie Critic.
