Director Jose Montesinos is in the early editing stages with his latest indie action comedy Grindhouse spoof, Mary Magnum: Jiu-Jitsu Nun. Story details are scant as of this post but the first official teaser is out with Montesinos directing from his own script, and a cast led by Paula Rae Taylor in the title role.
To this end, the teaser is enough to appease the curiousity until Montesinos pulls the curtain back a little further. A gun-toting martial arts heroine on an action-packed quest with hooded goons and over-the-top villains bodes plentifully for the concept shown here; It’s also one of several projects that Montesinos was also toiling away at with fellow film cohort, late actor and martial artist Dennis Ruel, until Ruel’s untimely passing a little over six months ago.
Montesinos has an eye for oddball action and laughs to add to his veracity in directing action films and dramas over the years, and Mary Magnum: Jiu-Jitsu Nun looks ripe for the taking. I’m told to expect a 2026 release until further notice, but the film also has its own social page on Instagram that you’re welcome to follow in the meantime.
