SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK: Meet Jangly Man In The New Trailer
My obsession with the horror genre began at an early age: from meeting Freddy Kreuger when I was about five years old to the numerous books on my shelves that were full of scary tales. Of course those shelves held the popular book Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell.
Well, if I’m being honest, the shelf did not see the book as much since it lived in my hands, as I frequently re-read it. And now they are making the first of the book series into a movie!
If you haven’t heard much about Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, it is based on the first book (there were three in the collection) and Guillermo Del Toro helped to write the screenplay for it. Here is the premise:
It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.
As any geek knows, San Diego Comic Con is the place to be for all the latest on pop culture news so more information about the André Øvredal directed film dropped there, including a new poster including Jangly Man which you can view below along with other posters revealed earlier on:
I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to this one. I like how the writers made a book based on folk tales and urban legends into a myth of its own in the film. And that line, “You don’t read the book; the book reads you.” Chills.
The film will be in theaters August 9, so we don’t have to wait too long to learn more about Sarah Bellows and her tales, but I think I will go and re-read the original to hold me over until then…
What part of the book are you hoping to see included in the film? Are you excited for this one or will you be skipping it? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
