Mediawan companies See-Saw Films (“Slow Horses,” “Heartstopper”) and Miraculous Corp are partnering to co-develop and co-produce the first live-action television adaptation of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The show will be based on the successful animated series created by Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn, which debuted in 2015.

Emme Hoy, who serves as a writer and co-EP on season two of See-Saw Films’ critically acclaimed thriller Sweetpea, returning to Sky in November and Starz in early 2027, and has written multiple episodes of BBC’s upcoming espionage series Honey, is adapting the live-action series. She is joined by See-Saw’s Nicky Earnshaw as co-producer, and whose Maria Nicholson, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Simon Gillis and Ben Irving are exec producing.

The show follows Marinette, who is hardworking, kind, and endearingly flawed, but convinced she must be perfect to be loved, and Adrien is charming, effortless, and has never once been allowed to choose his own life. By day they are classmates, circling each other with an electric chemistry neither can quite name. By night, as Ladybug and Cat Noir, they fight side by side — fearless, free, completely indispensable to each other. They are, of course, the same two people. They just don’t know it yet.

The shows description further adds: “Set in a Paris that is as dark as it is romantic, rooted in an ancient mythology of creation and destruction, this is a show with the emotional intimacy of a great romance and the ambition of a genuinely epic superhero story — built across multiple seasons, deeply emotional, and unmistakably Miraculous.“

Distributed by Mediawan Kids & Family in more than 150 countries, the TV series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is available on leading platforms and broadcasters including Disney Channel, Disney+, Netflix, Globo and TF1. Currently in its sixth season, the series recently ranked #1 among more than 850 school-age titles tracked worldwide by Parrot Analytics, with season seven set for a late 2026 launch.

The franchise is a global digital powerhouse, with 54 million YouTube subscribers, more than 55 billion lifetime views and an average of 900 million monthly views. Its reach also extends across consumer products, gaming, promotions and live experiences.

Miraculous has built a particularly engaged cross-generational fanbase, including a significant Gen Z following: 82% of adult viewers and 60% of social followers are aged 16–24. This active community creates a powerful foundation to evolve the franchise, serving the millions of fans who have grown up with Marinette and Adrien while welcoming new audiences into their world.

Worldwide sales are handled by Mediawan Rights.

“This project illustrates the strength of Mediawan’s international studio model: its ability to bring together renowned creative talent, leading production expertise and a shared ambition behind one of the world’s most popular animated franchises. The partnership between See-Saw Films and Miraculous Corp combines the complementary expertise of two Mediawan companies to open a new chapter for Miraculous and further expand this iconic franchise internationally,”said Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Mediawan’s Group Chief Content Officer and CEO of Mediawan Pictures.

“Miraculous has always been, at its heart, a story about the distance between who we are and who we let people see. Live action gives us the space to really feel that — to let it breathe, to let it hurt. At See-Saw, we’re aiming to build something with the emotional intimacy of a great romance and the scale of a genuinely epic superhero story. I think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters all over again,” said Nicholson.

“For more than a decade, Miraculous has connected with audiences around the world through characters and stories that inspire, entertain and resonate emotionally across generations. This is a defining next step for the franchise: for the first time, we are bringing Marinette and Adrien’s story into live action, in a bold new format designed both for the millions of fans who have grown up with them and for audiences discovering this extraordinary world for the first time. See-Saw Films and Emme Hoy bring an exceptional ability to create ambitious, emotionally sophisticated stories with genuine global appeal, making them the ideal creative partners for this exciting new chapter,” said Heath Kenny, Chief Content Officer, Miraculous Corp.

Her stage work includes the 2022 opening of her adaptation of Anne Brontë’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall at the Rosyln Packer Theatre, Hoy was named the 2022 Patrick White Fellow by the Sydney Theatre Company.
