McQuarrie has been with the franchise since 2015 and has contributed immensely with the action packed successes of Rogue Nation and Fallout – the fifth and sixth entries of the film series based on Bruce Gellar’s 1960s spy series.
That the IP is more than fifty years old hasn’t been a major decider thusfar, which is currently more than can be said for the latest three franchise sequel reboots that opened this month to dismal results at the box office in Doctor Sleep, Terminator: Dark Fate and Charlie’s Angeles. There’s still plenty of life for franchises like Jumanji and Universal’s latest Jurassic World installments, and it certainly helps that all the Mission: Impossible films featuring Cruise since Brian De Palma’s 1996 film have accrued mix-to-positive reviews coupled with its current franchise gross of $3.57 billion worldwide.
The addition of actress Rebecca Ferguson to the fifth film contributed a great deal to its hard-hitting scenic fight performance prior to the much-hyped conversation over the arduous photography of the popular bathroom fight scene in the sixth film. It drew ample praise and ceremomy for stunt performer Liang Yang in addition to actor Henry Cavill for his character’s mid-fight signature “arm-loading”.
Klementiff follows suit here with another action role following titles like Spike Lee’s Old Boy remake and her current run in Disney’s MCU a la Guardians Of The Galaxy and Avengers films. Paramount has since dated the seventh and eighth films for July 23, 2021, and August 5, 2022, respectively.
