Director Mikami Yasuo is heading back to the big screen this summer with jidaigeki piece, Musashi, opening in Japan theaters in May from ARK Entertainment. The official trailer is now online featuring actor Hosoda Yoshihiko in the lead for the epic sword drama about the legendary swordsman and his fated duel with rivaling Sasaki Kojiro, played by Matsudaira Ken.
Musashi returns Japan’s legendary swordsman and philosopher to the screen once again. In an original period drama based on the historical facts of the life and travels of the famous Miyamoto Musashi we find an apprentice, an instructor and the account of a famous battle in Japan of the Middle Ages where many questions will be answered.
The cinematography on this is especially a plus if I may say so myself. Mikami’s return to directing looks like a keeper while opening a door to his previous work including his 2013 sword pic, Bushido, which has been notably heralded for its action choreography and set pieces.
