Director Shiraishi said of the project:

“The thought of being in charge of this amazing reboot of Kamen Rider Black gives me the shivers. I’m going to need to rely on every bit of my skill to ensure I don’t get crushed by 50 years of Kamen Rider history. I want the tragic story of Kohtaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki to carve a new niche in the chronicles of Japanese heroes. I plan on giving it my best, I hope everyone will see it!”

The Special Effects Director for Black Sun is Kiyotaka Taguchi (Ultramanseries, Kamen Rider Den-O). Visual Concept Designer Shinji Higuchi (VFX Director,Shin Godzilla, DirectorAttack on Titan, Writer, Neon Genesis Evangelion) is also attached to the project. New details are teased for later this month.

Kamen Rider Black originally aired from 1987 into ’88, followed by a direct sequel,Kamen Rider Black RX,from ’88 to ’89. The character has made regular appearances in the series since, including a significant cameo in 2009’sKamen Rider Decade where he was the subject of a two episode special. The show was also adapted intoMasked Rider by Saban Brands, also responsible for the much better received Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. In Black, protagonist Kotaro Minami is captured and turned into a cyborg by an evil cult. They hope to turn him in to the next “Creation King” to rule the world, but he escapes and fights them as Kamen Rider Black.

Make sure to follow the official Twitter Account for the project for more, including additional cast photos, a video message from both announced actors, and further news.
