NICKY LARSON: Philippe Lacheau’s ‘City Hunter’ Goes Hunting In 2019

Hojo Tsukasa’s popular manga, City Hunter, is still one of the most long-running IPs of late. The demand is equally high as well in the realm of film, even moreso with Philippe Lacheau’s Nicky Larson coming in 2019.

Lacheau (Babysitting 1 and 2, Alibi.com) stars and directs the film which centers on the title hero – a womanizing P.I. who runs a jack-of-all-trades outlet running missions and solving crimes with a beautiful tomboy as his assistant. The production ran at least two teaser posters of late which you can view below.

On that note, when I shared the market news regarding this film to my fan page, it didn’t have the warmest reception among those who absorb French media regularly. It seems some fans are critical of Lacheau’s work and it’s all very new to me in my own discovery here, in accordance with learning of a live-action manga adaptation in the works. It’s pretty fascinating next to any critique that is abound.

The film is set to arrive in February of next year, around the same time Aniplex releases an all new animated City Hunter feature from Sunrise. At least two years since its announcement, director Stanley Tong may still be shepherding his own adaptation as well.

Alas, we should have plenty of City Hunter fandom to reflect on in the next few years. This ought to be interesting…or enraging – the recent Nicky Larson teaser posters benath may trigger either sentiment depending on your stances. Check them out below!
