NIGHT IN PARADISE: Park Hoon-Jung’s Celebrated South Korean Crime Noir Comes To Netflix In April
While New World and V.I.P. director Park Hoon-jung’s action horror sequel to 2018’s The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion moves forward, his latest crime noir, Night In Paradise, is currently being primed to release on Netflix following the streamer’s announcement on Monday.
The film, starring Um Tae-goo (My Punch-Drunk Boxer), Jeon Yeo-been (Secret Zoo) and Cha Seoung-won (Sinkhole) will launch globally in 190 countries beginning April 9, 2021, following its premiere at the 77th La Biennale di Venezia last year where festival director Alberto Barbera hailed it as “One of the best gangster movies coming from South Korean cinema”.
Produced by Goldmoon in association with Peppermint & company, Inc., Night In Paradise tells a story of a man (Um) targeted by a criminal organization and a woman on the verge of life and death. Night in Paradise stands as the only Korean film to receive an out of competition selection for Venice. In addition to the buzz, the announcement also cites the following:
Screen Daily described the dynamics of this “blood-spattered crime thriller” akin to a “rock band playing moody and low, then suddenly turning up the volume.” The Hollywood Reporter commended it as “a stylish, meandering, all-gangster Korean crime drama” with “a lot of good plotting, amusing characters and exciting action scenes and bloodshed.”
