OCEAN BOY Trailer: Tyler Atkins’ New Aussie Drama Heads To The U.S. In February

Inspired by true events, Ocean Boy is stirring, provocative and peppered with laconic Australian humor, a compelling story capturing the light and shade of life, reflecting strength and vulnerability.

And that’s the wind-up for Ocean Boy, from director Tyler Atkins and starring Luke Hemsworth, Isabel Lucas and Leanna Walsman, and introducing young actor Ramsus King. Gravitas Ventures acquired the pic back in November and will now release the film in select theaters and on-Demand beginning February 3.

Writes Deadline‘s Matt Grobar:

“We at Gravitas are proud to be bringing Ocean Boy to theaters and into homes this upcoming February,” said Gravitas’ Senior Director of Acquisitions, Bill Guentzler. “Luke Hemsworth and Rasmus King bring to life a magical tale of the deep connection between a father and son that we believe will touch the hearts of audiences.”

Ocean Boy, FKA Bosch + Rockit, was directed from a script storied by Atkins and written by Drew Metz who previously collaborated with Atkins on their 2016 short, The Love Effect. Atkins also produced his latest feature debut along with Jamie Arscott, Cathy Flannery and John Schwarz, with Nick Cole, Andrew Mann and Vicki Scotts exec producing.

Set in the late 1980s, Ocean Boy is told through the eyes of a 13-year-old boy, Rockit. As he grapples to understand why his Mum’s not coming home, Rockit embarks on a magical holiday with his father, Bosch, only to discover they’re actually running from the law.

Rockit finds a soulmate and then teenage love with Ash Ash, but it’s the ocean that gives him the security and calm he yearns from his parents. Ultimately Rockit is a boy held by nature, a young man who wins our hearts and respect as his story unfolds.

Filmed at iconic Byron Bay, against the canvas of Australia’s famous east coast surf beaches and rain forests, Ocean Boy is a raw and unapologetic exploration of unconscious parenting and the deeper themes of love and relationships.
