Hell Or High Water helmer David McKenzie is poised to charm audiences in Toronto next month for TIFF’s opening night. No mistake here that it’s one of two forthcoming titles that are centered the same historical protagonist though the newsworthiness over Netflix release, Outlaw King, is certainly of note.
The film hit a snag over distro issues this summer between the streaming service and Cannes overstreaming windows. As a result, the film was pulled from considerstion and thus, Outlaw King now has the next best thing and an inaugural gala presentation at TIFF will certainly prove monumental ahead of its November 9 release in select theaters and on Netflix.
The untold, true story of Robert The Bruce who transformed from defeated nobleman, to reluctant King, to outlaw hero over the course of an extraordinary year. Forced into battle in order to save his family, his people and his country from the oppressive English occupation of medieval Scotland, Robert seizes the Scottish crown and rallies a ragtag group of men to face off against the wrath of the world’s strongest army lead by the ferocious King Edward 1 and his volatile son, the Prince of Wales.
McKenzie reunites with Hell Or High Water star Chris Pine. Also starring are Aaron Taylor Johnson, Florence Pugh and Billy Howle.
