A year since its announcement for development, Variety’s Joe Otterson has word that a TV series based on the Pacific Rim movies has found a home at Amazon.
The new show marks a brand new live-action effort in episodic form from Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Heisserer (Bloodshot, Bird Box) is writing and exec producing via his Chronology banner for a story that reportedly takes place before the events of the films.
Hailing from Legendary Pictures, Guillermo del Toro directed 2013’s Pacific Rim for Warner Bros. Pictures, in its futuristic telling of a global force battling to save the world from an onslaught of Kaijus from a subterranean portal, using duo-manned Jaegers to square up with the titanic creatures. del Toro would go on to produce director Steven S. DeKnight’s sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, both releasing for Universal. Ensuing box office returns didn’t offer much room for a third installment, while Netflix made headway with two seasons of an animated series based on the films.
Heisserer’s name is the only one attached so far as far as trade reports go, but the news is otherwise progressing, particularly with the reported potential of more films on this end.
