PAPER BUTTERFLIES: Torn Romance Amid Upheaval In The Official Teaser For The New Period Drama

Director Emil Heradi’s latest tale of love amid turmoil will arrive in Indonesian cinemas in early 2024 with Paper Butterflies (or Kupu-Kupu Kertas as it’s regionally known). The upcoming period drama was penned by Jocelyn Coroelia, Rahabi Mandra and producer Denny Siregar for a cast led by Amanda Manopo (Indigo) and Chicco Kurniawan (13 Bom di Jakarta).

Set in the East Java town of Banyuwangi, the 1965-set Paper Butterflies tackles the story of Ning (Manopo) and Ikhsan (Kurniawan), the romance that bloomed between the two, and the deadly land dispute that raged on between their warring families and factions, threatening their fate. The film hails from Denny Siregar Productions and Maxima Pictures and hits Indonesian screens on February 7.

I imagine a new trailer will arrive at any time between now and the days ahead but the first teaser is up and running as of a few months ago and dives deep enough to warrant some cinephilic appeal. Take a look!
